I liked my Fuji X100, I loved the X30 (might even get one again…)! And part of what I liked was the gorgeous film simulations.

Provia, Velvia and the others, among them a very passable B&W mode. Not the Acros of the new X-Pro2 for sure, but nice and contrasty in it’s red-filter-flavor. At last we can chose freely what look we want! Well done Fuji!

Why do we fall for certain cameras?

“The camera does not mater, it’s the photographer!”

“The camera is just a box with a lens!”

We all heard this, we all nodded wisely and went on arguing about one camera’s merits versus another. But why do we chose one specific camera over others. Where is the trigger that makes us shell out for a Leica, a Nikon, a Sony or another Fuji? For a fixed lens, an SLR….?

I think there are two levels of choice when you try to find the camera that’s right for you.

The first level is easy, it’s natural. It’s the choice of the right kind of tool. Just as the watchmaker won’t use a mechanic’s wrench or a stonemason won’t even think of using a cobbler’s hammer. Let me say that for me, photography is not only the fact to have a camera with you occasionally and snap some pictures at random. It’s rather something I feel deep in myself, something I love to do, something that fills me with all kinds of good mojo.

Call me a hopeless Apple fanboy…. you’re welcome! What I know is that until July 2006 I was a PC guy, I built my PC’s, I upgraded my PC’s (far too often) and I built a loooong stream of them. Then I got an iMac, and it’s still working. It’s my daughter’s computer right now. I never was tempted with updating (not that it would be easy), and the Macs have a way longer life than any PC, well worth the higher price. And never ran any anti-virus software since 2006 on multiple Macs in my family. Just somme common sense keeps me virus-free….. until now. I am presently in a quite delicate situation, explaining my lack of posts in the last month.

Some monetary and private storms heading my way, well, call them real nasty cyclones if you like. I sold some of my beloved cameras, the SLRs and lenses. Bye bye to my beautiful OM1 and 2, I’ll really miss you.
