I want it thank Pavel for sharing his thoughts today. At first I wanted to comment on his post but as I started writing I noticed that I had too much to say on this for a simple comment.
There seems to be a trend to get off the high tech and social networking bandwagon lately.

In my iPad-post from some days ago I promised to compare my Plustek Opticfilm 8100 Scanner to the act of digitizing the negatives with my Fuji X-E1 and a gorgeous Takumar 50mm f:4 macro lens. The film was Stephen Dowling’s excellent Kosmo Foto Mono film, in fact a rebranded Fomapan 100 film in a gorgeous packaging. Perhaps a rehash of an existing film but if this makes people take up film photography… why not!
Well, here are the results, and these are some of the first shots with my freshly CLA’d Spotmatic.
This is the digitized version, very nice detail, fine structures and the grain of the Kosmo Foto 100 film, in fact a rebranded Fomapan 100 film is very nice.

After much time wasted talking about gear, I have at last some new photos to show. Nothing great, just some snaps from the first test roll out of my Pentax MX.
Darn, there I go and talk gear again! Nasty me!
But photography is also about gear, and about our way to see and to transform the things we see into pleasing (I hope) photos, using some gear or another.
Two posts a day! Yes, I’m totally crazy! But in fact I promised to develop my first roll in the Pentax MX tonight and I keep my promises. An hour in Rodinal with a gentle inversion at thirty minutes did the trick. Of course I still have to scan the bunch…. or rather use my ‘new’ Takumar macro lens to digitize ’em. Next time there’s … Continue reading Done!
Yes, it another (short) gear post. Sorry for that but I just wanted to announce that my glorious Spotmatic SP is back from Knoxville, Tennessee where it got the loving and much needed care of Eric Hendrickson!

Early morning!
I convinced myself to have a camera in hand (even the lowly iPhone), and as if by magic, the photos appear!
Told you yesterday that the Pentax MX’s light meter was acting up.
Well I opened the bottom plate this morning and poked around under it a bit.
Why do I like my Leica IIIa, despite all it’s shortcomings?
It feels good, makes me want to make photos and above all it’s quite compact for a pro-grade camera. Unlike my Spotmatic…
But still it’s not really pocketable, even the IIIa with the collapsible Summitar.
Anyways, I like small cameras and specially the very small ones – looking at you, XA2!
Now I know that I said that I was down to just three cameras, but sometimes you can’t just pass up on a great deal. I managed to get hold of a Pentax MX, a camera that has always intrigued me.
It’s debut was just year or two after the diminutive Olympus OM1 and I guess the guys at Pentax were challenged to trump the dimensions of the OM1. But not only the dimensions. They also tried to equal or surpass the sheer mechanical goodness of the Olympus.
Did they manage? How small did the MX turn out to be? How good is it?
I’ll try to answer there questions here.
First, let’s talk about size. I don’t have an OM1 any more so I can’t vouch for the comparision but there are pictures around that clearly show the size advantae of the MX.
